It’s Not What  You Know, It’s Who  You Know

I bet you’ve heard this phrase multiple times over the years. I have too. And while I believe what you know can be very significant, your connections often make or break your climbing the ladder to success. Breaking into screenwriting, getting that first job, or snagging the big interview usually boils down to who you know.

I believe it’s true for writing a book as well. You might just have a great book idea, but that idea could fizzle instead of sizzle because you don’t know the right publishers, the right developmental editors, the right publicists or P.R. agents or, for even the right ghostwriters. It’s a competitive world out there today. Half a million books are released annually.

What would you say if I allowed you to spend a weekend with incredible people from the book industry? What if you could enjoy breakfast or lunch with them, and bounce ideas off of them? What if I could introduce you to the people who could not only help you write a book, but to do it brilliantly on the first try?

Well, that’s what I am doing again in 2026.

My friend Sangram and I are hosting our third “A Book In A Weekend” on February 27-March 1, 2026. The weekend kicks off a year of coaching for new or aspiring authors to take their vision from an idea to a published book. Participants will hear from:

  • Adam Witty  President of Forbes Books and Advantage Publishing.

  • Matt Litton Best-selling developmental editor and ghostwriter.

  • Valorie Burton Best-selling author and life coach.

  • John Maxwell Multiple New York Times best-selling author.

  • Don Yaeger Twelve-time New York Times best-selling author.

  • Mark Cole CEO of Maxwell Leadership and Maxwell Leadership Publishing.

And several others in the world of publishing and promoting books.

Now, here’s the fun part:

Participants in each cohort pitch their book idea to a ”Shark Tank” of publishers and at least one person gets a book deal! The last cohorts have had several people get book deals. Jeff Hancher’s book, the winner of the first cohort, saw his book become an Amazon and a USA Today bestseller!

Sound interesting?

This high-end experience is for serious aspiring authors. It begins with an all-inclusive weekend followed by a year of monthly coaching calls until you finish your book. If you’d like to hear from those who’ve been part of “A Book In A Weekend,” check them out at ABookInAWeekend.com.

Apply now to see if you’re a fit. This small cohort is exclusive and limited to 15 people. Stop making excuses and let’s get started. I would love to be your coach.
